Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy?
Therapy is a space to get curious about your own story instead of just living inside it. This looks like exploring your inner world — your emotions, thoughts, bodily sensations, and beliefs that shape how you see yourself and the world. Therapy is something we do together, not something I do to you. Your willingness to engage, stay open to new insights, and explore unfamiliar territory is what allows growth to happen.
How do I know if we are a “good fit”?
I'm going to give you a more nuanced answer than "you'll just know" because it isn’t always that clear. The real answer? It's messier and more complicated than it seems and takes some detective work on your part in the beginning.
I recommend taking some time after sessions to pay attention to how you feel when you're talking to me. Do you find yourself actually saying what you mean, or are you editing yourself? Do I seem to get where you're coming from? When I ask questions or make observations, does it feel like I'm on the same page as you?
And notice how you feel after we talk. Are you glad you came? Do you leave sessions with fresh insights or a sense of hope about moving forward?
If you're not sure, just tell me. We can talk about what's working and what isn't. And if we're not a good match? No hard feelings! I'd rather help you find someone who clicks with you than have you stick around feeling meh about it.
How often should I come to therapy?
In the beginning stages of therapy, I recommend scheduling a session once every week at the same day and time. Meeting weekly offers consistency that can set the foundation for building our relationship. Weekly sessions also ensure less time is spent recapping the events of the week and more time on the deeper meanings underneath them.
Once the foundation has been laid, we can discuss meeting every other week or monthly based on your needs. If you are ever in need of extra support, I offer sessions twice a week on a short-term basis.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long. For EMDR therapy not using insurance, sessions are 75 minutes long.
How do you see your clients?
I am currently only seeing clients in-person on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
How many sessions will I need ?
Therapy length is entirely up to you and depends on your needs and goals. Some clients work with me for just a few sessions, while most choose long-term work spanning months or years. I specialize in trauma and deep healing work, which often benefits from more time, but the pace and duration are always your decision. We'll discuss what feels right for your specific situation.
What kind of clients do you work with?
My practice welcomes individuals of all genders, identities, and cultural backgrounds, ages 12 and up. I focus primarily on complex trauma, anxiety, grief, depression and narcissistic abuse recovery. I provide affirming therapy for neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, disabled people, those in the BDSM/kink communities, and those in ethical nonmonogomous relationships.
How do you see your clients?
I primarily see clients in-person at my office in the Inner Richmond in San Francisco. Virtual sessions are available on a limited basis for California residents and for established in-person clients when needed.
What are your fees?
My fee is $185. For EMDR sessions, I charge $195 for 75 minute sessions. Payment is due at the end of every session.
Do you take insurance?
I am credentialed with several insurance plans, but at this time my practice is full for clients using insurance. I am only accepting new clients on a private-pay basis. If you have out-of-network benefits, I'm happy to provide documentation (superbills) that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
What is a superbill ?
If you have out-of-network coverage I am happy to provide you with a superbill. Superbills are a way for you to utilize and get reimbursed by your out-of- network benefits through your insurance. This means that you pay the fee up front and at the end of each month, I would provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. They would then reimburse you their negotiated amount. This option is not available for every insurance plan and requires that you communicate with your insurance provider throughout the process.
It is strongly encouraged that you contact your insurance company prior to starting therapy for pre-approval and to confirm coverage, and any limitations, including co-pays and deductibles. Some insurance companies select a panel of providers to deliver therapy services and may not reimburse for services from other professionals outside their network.
How do I get started?
The first step is to schedule a free 20-minute consultation call. If we feel like a good fit and you'd like to move forward, we can then schedule your first session either virtually or in person.
